Why chamois instead of polyurethane (PU) tape?
Chamois is a natural-feel, highly absorbent leather-like material that wicks sweat instantly and stays tacky when wet — ideal for players who sweat heavily or play in humid conditions. PU tape is thinner and smoother, suited to players who prefer a harder feel and drier conditions. The ROYAL Chamois Grip is purpose-built for performance in both wet and dry play.

How do I secure the start and end so the grip doesn't move?
At the butt end, align the grip edge flush with the end of the handle before you begin wrapping — this anchors the starting point. At the top end, cut the grip cleanly and secure it with the finishing tape included (or quality electrical tape). For extra hold at the base, a small strip of double-sided tape under the first wrap prevents slippage during aggressive dribbling or tackling.

How do I dry and care for the grip between sessions?
After play, wipe the grip down with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture. Allow it to air-dry at room temperature — avoid direct sunlight or heat sources, which can cause the chamois to stiffen or crack. Store your stick grip-side up or horizontally. Do not wrap the stick in a bag while the grip is still damp.

When should I replace the grip?
Replace your ROYAL Chamois Grip when you notice any of the following: the surface feels hard or slick rather than soft and tacky; the grip has started to peel, fray, or tear at the edges; your hand position is shifting during play; or there is visible compression of the material under the wrap. For regular club or school players, expect to regrip every 1–3 months depending on session frequency and conditions.

Will the 2m grip cover my stick?
Yes. Standard field hockey stick handles range from approximately 60–70 cm. The 2m length provides more than enough material for a full handle wrap with a standard overlap pattern, leaving some extra for trimming or a double-wrap section for players who prefer more cushioning at the top hand position.
